Privacy notice

This notice describes how LogTurtle handles information at logturtle.com, including Games, accounts, Trips and City Guides, and Volunteer Logbook. “LogTurtle,” “we,” and “us” refer to the person operating the site under the LogTurtle name.

LogTurtle is operated from Washington, D.C., and is intended primarily for users in the United States.

If you only play a game

You can play More or Less without an account. More or Less saves your first guesses and uses them to show results, answered-question history, and points in this browser. The game code does not send those guesses or points to LogTurtle’s database. It does not create global rankings or a game history that follows you across devices. You can use “Reset my game progress” to clear More or Less answers and points from this browser without clearing account or module records.

Loading a game still makes requests to our hosting provider. Those requests expose technical information such as your IP address and browser information to the provider. Game pages also load the Cloudflare performance analytics script described below. If you choose Copy or Share, the result text goes to your clipboard or the sharing service you select.

Information used by account features

We receive information you enter, records created when you use a feature, and information that organizers or administrators enter to manage your participation.

Enter only information needed for your use of the feature. Avoid including sensitive personal details in free-text notes, especially about other people.

How information is used

Information supports sign-in and account recovery, saving and displaying your work, controlling access, coordinating trips and volunteer activities, maintaining participation and confirmation records, responding to requests, and operating and troubleshooting the site. Weather features request forecasts using configured coordinates. The site does not request your device’s GPS location.

Who can see information

Access depends on the feature and assigned role. Trip organizers can review saved participant responses, including drafts. A “draft” label or an unfinished Submit step does not mean the organizer cannot see information already saved. Some fields save as you work; other fields require Save.

Favorites, personal lodging/notes, route origins, and private volunteer records have separate account-specific application access rules. Program staff can access the participation and management records their roles allow, such as scheduling, bookings, attendance, and confirmations. Private planning entries do not by themselves book a program shift.

Authorized site administrators have access needed for their administrative functions. People with technical administration access to the backend can access stored data. Account-specific access rules are not a promise that backend administrators cannot see it.

Service providers process information to deliver hosting, authentication, storage, and other features. Information may also need to be disclosed when required by applicable law or to respond to a valid legal request.

Browser storage and shared devices

The site uses local storage for game answers and points, persistent sign-in sessions, some personal volunteer records cached in this browser, entry defaults, and dismissed notices. Temporary session storage supports tasks such as recovering navigation and avoiding duplicate trip-creation requests.

Local storage can remain after you close a tab or restart the browser. Session storage normally lasts for the tab’s session, although browser restoration may restore it. Someone using the same browser profile may be able to access stored information.

You can clear site data through your browser’s settings. This may sign you out, reset your game answers, points, and preferences, and remove browser-only information. Clearing site data does not delete server records. Signing out is not the same as clearing all browser storage. Save or export information you need before clearing it.

Hosting and outside services

Cloudflare hosts and delivers the site. Supabase provides authentication and database services. Account pages load the Supabase browser library through jsDelivr. Weather features make requests to the National Weather Service and Open-Meteo using configured coordinates. When your browser contacts one of these services, that service receives the request and associated technical information.

Provider information is available from Cloudflare and Supabase. Those policies describe the providers’ practices; this notice describes LogTurtle’s use of your information. Provider processing of application data may also be governed by their agreements with the site operator.

Opening maps, restaurant pages, source links, or other outside websites sends you to services with their own practices. Map links can contain a destination or other details included in the link. Review an export, copied message, or sharing preview before sending it. Copies you give to other people or services are outside the site’s direct control.

Cookies, analytics, advertising, and privacy signals

We do not sell personal information or share it for targeted advertising. LogTurtle does not run advertisements. Pages load Cloudflare Web Analytics, a script provided through our hosting service that measures page views and page-load performance. Cloudflare states that this analytics service does not use cookies or local storage for analytics or track individual visitors across its customers’ websites. Hosting and security providers also process technical information needed to deliver and protect their services.

Cloudflare can use security cookies for functions such as bot detection and challenges, depending on the protection in use. Such cookies serve a different purpose from the analytics script. The site does not change its behavior in response to a browser’s Do Not Track signal. We do not use advertising trackers to follow your activity across other websites. Our policy against selling personal information or sharing it for targeted advertising applies whether or not a browser sends an opt-out signal.

Retention, access, and deletion

You can edit or delete certain individual records through the site. It does not currently provide a complete self-service account deletion tool. Deleting a browser cache, removing a record, leaving a trip, and deleting an account are different actions.

Account-deletion requests are handled individually by the site operator after identity verification. They are not processed automatically; removing an account and its associated records can require manual administrative work. Our deletion policy is to remove the account and its private notes, preferences, favorites, and personal records from active systems after verification and review of the records involved. We will review shared volunteer attendance and confirmation records separately. We will delete or de-identify records that are no longer needed, and retain identifiable records only when there is a specific, documented need and a defined retention period.

Our current database plan does not include scheduled backups available to us or point-in-time recovery. Service logs and any provider-internal recovery copies are handled separately from active account records. Deleting active records does not establish that every provider-held copy is erased at the same moment. Copies you have exported, shared, or stored in your browser need to be handled separately.

To request access, correction, or deletion, email privacy@logturtle.com. We will review your request and explain any records that need to be retained and why. We may need to verify that the request comes from the account holder. Rights and required response times depend on applicable law.

Children

LogTurtle is a general-audience site and is not intended for children under 13. Family-friendly game content does not change that intended audience. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.

Changes and contact

We will post changes to this notice here and update its effective date. Material changes may also be brought to your attention through the site or another appropriate channel.
